Herricks is giving overwhelmed elementary schoolers a way to calm down.

Students, teachers and administrators from Herricks’ Center Street Elementary School gathered to celebrate the grand opening of the school’s new “Cub Cave,” a new student-centered space.

Rooted in the six competencies that make up the district’s “Portrait of a Graduate,” this new space, which opened late last month, is designed to support students’ well-being while fostering their academic, social and emotional growth. Inclusive of all students, a spokesperson for Herricks said it offers a variety of resources to help students relax and reset during challenging or overwhelming days.

The district said it was proud to recognize teacher Samantha Stephens, speech therapist Juliana Miles, and occupational therapist Danielle Baldwin for their instrumental roles in creating this affirming, inclusive, and supportive environment for the school’s children.
