The Helen Keller National Center held the exhibition reception of “Through Our Hands: Creativity Through Touch and Expression” at The Art Guild on Wednesday, July 16. HKNC is an agency that offers comprehensive vocational rehabilitation services for deaf-blind individuals at its headquarters in Sands Point.
The exhibition showcases the creativity of deaf-blind artists, emphasizing their perception of the world and turning it into art. Attendees experienced the diverse and rich creativity that flourishes through different senses.
The Art Guild has partnered with HKNC for this annual exhibition for the third year in a row, thanks to Lisa Grossman, Executive Director of The Art Guild. What sets this apart from the other exhibitions is that touching the art is highly encouraged. Using processes like “swelling,” where art can be printed in 3D, those who can’t see can feel the art. But these creative artists did so much more.
The exhibit will be on display until Aug. 6.
The authenticity, creativity, and outreach of this annual exhibition reception have caught the attention of the media, including NewsDay, which has previously come to interview Lisa Grossman and HKNC.
Hearts PW, Annette, and Dan Kasle sponsored the event. The group’s mission is to create an inclusive environment for all who dream of pursuing the arts. Thanks to you, this is all possible.
The next community outreach program is CreARTive. Join The Art Guild on Saturday, Aug. 2, for a free kids’ event featuring cultural arts experiences, tie-dyeing, painting, Gyotaku printing, mixed media, Rangoli nature design, and more.
