The Webb Institute, located in Glen Cove, has been named one of the nation’s best colleges by The Princeton Review.
“This recognition from The Princeton Review affirms the extraordinary academic experience and close-knit community we foster here at Webb,” Mark Martecchini, president of Webb Institute, said in a press release. “Our students’ passion for naval architecture and marine engineering, coupled with our faculty’s dedication, creates a truly unique and world-class educational environment.”
The annual Princeton Review guide includes 391 out of almost 2,400 four-year colleges and was released by Penguin Random House on Friday, Aug. 15.
The Webb Institute landed a 93/99 academic rating and an 85/99 in quality of life.
Webb Institute, the nation’s only college devoted solely to naval architecture and marine engineering, was selected based on surveys given to 2,000 college administrators about academic offerings. Student feedback on multiple topics and campus experiences was also taken into consideration.
In The Princeton Review, the publication called Webb Institute “a very niche school that is very good at what it does.”
The students receiving their dual degree in naval architecture and marine engineering were also highlighted, including their Winter Work Term.
The Winter Work Term allows students to gain hands-on, real-life experience by working across the U.S. and globally in four unique working opportunities during their semesters. The Winter Work Term has been credited as a major component in students graduating with 100% job placement.
Among the students surveyed, many described Webb Institute as a place where “so many people collaborate on homework” and professors are “invested.”
“Webb Institute has outstanding academic programs, and the feedback we received from its students was very impressive,” Rob Franek, the editor-in-chief of The Princeton Review, said in a press release. “We are delighted to name Webb one of our best colleges for 2026 and to recommend it to students searching for their ‘best-fit’ college.”
