Seventh- and eighth-grade students at Manhasset Secondary School celebrated Lunar New Year with traditional foods, cultural activities and New Year wishes in Mandarin during the weeklong observance.

Students in Ms. Zhou’s Chinese language classes sampled Chinese and Taiwanese treats, wrote down their hopes for the year ahead and recorded a video message in Mandarin wishing the community a happy and prosperous new year.

“Wishing everyone a Happy New Year! May everything go as you wish. Good luck in the Year of the Horse!” students said.

In addition to classroom festivities, seventh graders visited the school library to practice Chinese calligraphy, learning how to form characters using brush and ink. Students focused on writing traditional New Year phrases and characters representing good fortune and happiness.

School officials said the celebration offered students an opportunity to deepen their understanding of Chinese language and culture while sharing the holiday’s traditions with classmates.

The annual observance has become a highlight of the winter season, blending language study with hands-on cultural experiences.
