LI Eye: The alarming — and escalating — rate at which companies are leaving Long Island has finally woken up the business community.
The Ronkonkoma Hub, the darling project for many-a-smart growth advocates, may be one of the few projects on Long Island worth the praise it has received. It offers the opportunity for true intermodal access spanning the automobile, bus, train and airplane. Unlike other ambitious projects its size, this $538 million Hub has faced minimal NIMBY outcry from the surrounding area.
“It’s another layer of government imposed on planning and zoning initiatives. It’s red tape. It’s unnecessary.”
One can bet that residents in the areas Heartland will impact definitely have more than 40,000 reasons why the project isn’t right for Long Island.
At least the wind is blowing in the right direction in Suffolk compared to Nassau, where it's mostly hot air.
Let’s be realistic about our expectations.
