Dooley Roosevelt Memorial Race
The 19th annual Dooley Roosevelt Memorial Race, sponsored jointly by Sagamore Yacht Club and Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club was held on Aug. 1.
This annual Regatta is held in honor of and in memory of Dooley Roosevelt who was a member of both yacht clubs.
Each year, following the race, an awards ceremony and a celebration dinner is held alternately at either Sagamore or Seawanhaka. This year, Seawanhaka Corinthian hosted the awards presentation, cocktails and dinner “ Jazz Under the Stars” as a culmination of the Regatta.
There were 15 boats in the race that sailed in a slight breeze. There were three different divisions: Spinnaker, Non-Spinnaker, and One Design. Sagamore , Seawanhaka Corinthian and Oak Cliff Yacht Clubs participated.
Bob Neidringhaus sailing Hunt Lawrence’s Melges 24 sailing for Oak Cliff won the spinnaker division. Sagamore member Jack Bernstein sailed Luff Story to victory in the non-spinnaker division and the Ladies from Seawanhaka Corinthian [ Meg Floyd-Jones, Vicki Johnson, Marianne Nash, and Maude Robertson ] won the One Design division.
As always, the regatta is a day of fun and friendly competition and good fellowship.
