The fourth grade boys basketball team won the fifth-grade Rockville Centre Outdoor Basketball League Championship by beating a strong fifth-grade Rockville Centre team 31-27 on Friday, Aug. 21 in the championship game.
The fourth-grade team wanted to build on its success from the winter but Rockville Centre only offered a fifth-grade summer league so the squad played against older and often quite taller opponents. The boys made up for their lack of comparative size with tenacious defense, pinpoint passing and fast break execution.
Throughout the summer, Ian Gallagher, Michael Liberopolous and Andrew DeSantis controlled the boards while Matthew Granville, Sean Leggett and Colin Crean applied suffocating defensive pressure. Brendan McGuire, Liam Muldoon and Cole Dutton provided strong outside shooting while Michael Handal, Tyler Wuchte and Patrick Leggett relied on hustle to beat their opponent down the court for easy fast break baskets. The team is coached by Tom Granville and John Gallagher.
