In Memory of Jack A. Garofalo
The Long Island Riding for the Handicapped Association, Inc. will hold its Annual Walk-A-Thon on Sept. 20 in loving memory of Jack A. Garofalo, of New Hyde Park, who passed away last January. He was a devoted student of the program and a student and resident of AHRC.
The Walk-A-Thon will be held at Jones Beach State Park, Parking Field No. 5 at 10:30 a.m., rain or shine.
There is no fee for the walk, and only a parking fee of $6, but all contributions are gratefully accepted to continue the Long Island Riding for the Handicapped Association, Inc.that enables this unique program to be offered free to all those who are handicapped.
The program provides therapy on horseback that is cost-free to the students and help the students see their “abilities” not their “disabilities.”
Walkers are invited to invite family and friends to join the L.I.R.H.A. walk and to set a minimum goal of $25 per person and most walker teams are able to raise at least $200. All contributions are welcomed and appreciated.
The entire amount of money raised is used directly for the L.I.R.H.A. Program. It is used to lease horses for the lessons, insurance fees and accreditation fees. It also purchases special adaptive equipment for the students as well as a nominal salary for the instructors and therapists.
Bring a beach chair and enjoy the fun-filled day that includes food, raffles and music by KJOY 98.3.
No pets or alcohol permitted.
