All students of the New Hyde Park/Garden City Park Schools will return to school today.

New Hyde Park Village Board to Hold Hearing and Meeting

The New Hyde Park Village Board will hold a hearing at 7:30 p.m. to consider an auto showroom and repair shop at 1800 Jericho Turnpike, New Hyde Park. Directly after the hearing the board will hold its regular meeting. Both meetings will be held at village hall, corner of New Hyde Park Road and Jericho Turnpike, New Hyde Park.

Herricks Players Announce Audition Dates for Fall Show

The Herricks Community Players has announced it will hold auditions for its upcoming fall show at the Herricks Community Theater, 999 Herricks Road, New Hyde Park. The show this year is entitled Beau Jest, by James Sherman and it’s a hysterical comedy about a Jewish girl, who is dating a non-Jewish man, but for her father’s birthday, she hires an actor to play her Jewish suitor. It turns out that he is not Jewish either and she panics; and part of the panic is the funniest part of the show. Auditions for this fun-filled show will be on Sept. 8 and Sept. 9 at 7:30 p.m. at the Herricks Community Theater, with callbacks on Sept. 10. Show dates are on: Oct. 23, 24, 25 and on Oct. 30, 31 and Nov. 1. The cast includes a mother, father, daughter, and brother, a hired boyfriend and real boyfriend. All the students in the Herricks Schools system will return to their classrooms today.

Shelter Rock Library Board of Trustees to Meet

The Board of Trustee of the Shelter Rock Library, 165 Searingtown Road, Albertson, will hold its monthly board meet at 8 p.m. in the library’s program room. The meeting may contain an executive session for discussion of personnel issue. The public is invited to attend.

Garden City Park Civic To Hold Monthly Meeting

The next monthly meeting of the Garden City Park Civic Association will be 7:30 p.m. at the VFW Hall located at 2163 Jericho Turnpike, Garden City Park. This month’s guest speaker’s will be representatives from the office of the physically challenged. They will be giving a short presentation. All are encouraged to attend.

New Hyde Park Gladiator Fund To Hold Kelly Golf Classic

The New Hyde Park Gladiator Fund will hold the 15th Annual William F. Kelly Memorial Golf Classic to benefit James J.T. Meredith, son of James and Karen Meredith, New Hyde Park Memorial Class of ’81, diagnosed with traumatic brain injury. St. Andrew’s Thrift Shop To Reopen

New Hyde Park Annual Street Fair

The Village of New Hyde Park will hold its Annual Street Fair starting at 10 a.m. Jericho Turnpike will be closed off from New Hyde Park Road to Covert Street until 4 or 5 p.m. when the fair will close. Included will be a huge array of vendors, plus opportunities for changes and many other events including a display by the New Hyde Park Fire Department.

Gloria Dei Lutheran Church To Hold Rally Day

Gloria Dei Evangelical Lutheran Church is having its annual Rally Day to kick off another exciting year of Sunday School. Festivities and free Sunday School registration will be held at Gloria Dei, 600 New Hyde Park Road, New Hyde Park, on Sept. 13 between the 9 and 11 a.m. services. Nassau Bar Hosts Free Legal Consultation Clinic for Seniors

The Nassau County Bar Association (NCBA) provides free monthly legal consultation clinics for Nassau County residents 65 or older. Seniors have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with an attorney for a half-hour private consultation on any topic of concern. The next Senior Citizen Free Legal Consultation Clinic will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at NCBA, 15th and West streets, Mineola. This popular free program regularly fills up quickly. Williston Park Day Celebrated in Williston Park

The Annual Williston Park Day will be celebrated in Williston Park on Hillside Avenue and Willis Avenue to the train tracks. The Chamber of Commerce of The Willistons sponsors the day that is filled with vendors, food, rides and lots of fun. Stroll along Hillside Avenue and enjoy a huge selection of vendors selling everything from crafts to hot dogs. Entertainment will be in the middle of the street at various intervals, just to add to the fun. Come one, come all. Admission is free.

Long Island Riding for the Handicapped Walk-A-Thon

The Long Island Riding for the Handicapped Association, Inc. will hold its Annual Walk-A-Thon in loving memory of Jack A. Garofalo, of New Hyde Park, who passed away last January. He was a devoted member of the program and a student and resident of AHRC. The Walk-A-Thon will be held at Jones Beach State Park, Parking Field No. 5 at 10:30 a.m., rain or shine. There is no fee for the walk, and only a parking fee of $6, but all contributions are gratefully accepted to continued the Long Island Riding for the Handicapped Association, Inc. that enables this unique program to be offered free to all those who are handicapped. The program provides therapy on horseback that is cost-free to the students and help the students see their “abilities” not their “disabilities.” Walkers are invited to invite family and friends to join the L.I.R.H. A. walk and to set a minimum goal of $25 per person and most walker teams are able to raise at least $200. All contributions are welcomed and appreciation. Herricks High School Homecoming

The Herricks High School will hold its Annual Homecoming parade to step off from Park Avenue, Williston Park on or about noon. All the floats will gather at this location as well as the Herricks Marching Band, all the school officials and dignitaries, the candidates for king and queen, the cheerleaders and all the various members of all the classes. New Hyde Park Memorial High School will hold its Annual Homecoming celebration starting with a parade that will wind through the streets of New Hyde Park ending at the football field. This year’s theme is entitled “Around The World” and all the floats created by each class will reflect that theme. At the halftime of the football game, the float winners will be announced, as well the names of the New Hyde Park Memorial King and Queen.

Long Island Breakfast Club has announced that it will honor North Hempstead Town Receiver of Taxes Rocco Iannarelli at an Italian Heritage Day Event entitled An Evening in Tuscany to be held at The Westbury Manor, Jericho, New York from 6 to 11 p.m..
