Despite the rain date change to Sept. 13, the Women’s Club of Farmingdale presented the community with a remarkable day of art appreciation on the Village Green.
Forty-seven artists presented their stories in a variety of media in the Art in the Park event chaired by Frances Rotondo and Dolores Cianciabella. Women’s Club members also sold homemade goods at a simultaneous bake sale, chaired by Loda Romanelli.
“Art is a feeling, that when put on canvas, becomes a story,” Rotondo commented.
The work of U.S. Open Official Artist Elaine Thompson was also included. Music was provided by Lonesome Moonlight String Band, Dr. Chris Wider on guitar and keyboard duet Gary Piacentini and Michelle Lisi.
The Farmingdale Chamber of Commerce supported the Art in the Park event and raffled an oil painting donated by artist and former Women’s Club President Carla Peipert.
Democratic candidate for Oyster Bay Town Clerk John Capobianco entered two bonsai trees in the Women’s Club of Farmingdale’s Art In the Park contest.
“There are a lot of superb artists here today and I’m happy to live in such a creative and active community,” he said.
Democratic candidate for Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Keith Scalia, who also attended the event, added, “This is why the Farmingdale area is such a great place to live. Mayor Starkie and the village trustees always have activities for the community, everything from Art in the Park to movie nights and pops concerts.”
The judge’s selection as ribbon winners included: First Prize : John Dunlop – metal sculptor; Second Prize : Jean George, photography, Third Prize: Charlene Kalin – watercolor. Outstanding ribbons were award to Elaine Thompson – Oil, George Hellmuth Chambers (posthumous) – watercolor, Marina Falkov – watercolor, Harry Anesta – Ice Hockey sports illustration; and Bob Westfall – Oil – Tribute to a Soldier.
All donations and contributions from Art In the Park will be used for scholarships and community improvement.
