Plainview Resident to Train With Phelps

A West Hills Day camper, 9-year-old Lauren Brandenstein, was selected by the camp’s senior leadership to attend a swim clinic featuring instruction by Michael Phelps, the winner of a record-setting eight gold medals in the 2008 Summer Olympics. Mr. Phelps has accumulated a total of 14 Olympic gold medals in his career.

The swim clinic will take place on Oct. 18, 2009, at the Nassau County Department of Parks, Recreation & Museums, Nassau County Aquatic Center in Eisenhower Park.

“Lauren was selected based on her swimming accomplishments and overall exceptional team spirit,” said Eileen Globus, pool director. Lauren swam successfully during the 2008-2009 school year and was coached by Jeryl Israel, a veteran swim coach in the Plainview Old-Bethpage School District.

“This is an exceptional opportunity for Lauren to bring her talent to the next level,” said Kevin Gersh. “We motivate our campers each and every day and that is the spirit of West Hills,” said Michael Moore.
