Long Island Fair
The 167th annual Long Island Fair will be held through Oct. 4 at Old Bethpage Village Restoration, Round Swamp Rd., Old Bethpage. The family-friendly festival includes a range of attractions, including the Indian River Olde Time Lumberjack Show, exotic animal and reptile shows, pony and wagon rides as well as the amazing Flying Horses Carousel, a replica of a 19th-century folk art carousel. In addition, the fair will incorporate a carnival with a merry-go-round, a Ferris wheel and other amusements and games appropriate for children. The carnival fees will be separate from the OBV entrance fee. Children can take part in fun-filled contests. The livestock demonstration ring will feature the beautiful horse-drawn carriages of the Paumanok Driving Club and the miniature horses of the Keystone Miniatures Club. New this year will be Miss Emily’s School of Dramatics, involving audience participation storytelling. Teddy Roosevelt’s Rough Riders will be encamped at the village and will give scheduled demonstrations of a soldier’s life. Call 572-0200.

Legislator Dave Mejias will be hosting a town hall open to all residents on how to hire a home contractor. There will be a presenter from the New York State Attorney General’s office to answer questions and teach residents how to hire a reputable home contractor for home improvements. 7 to 9 p.m. at the Plainview-Old Bethpage Library.
