Villages Light Up Their Christmas Trees

New Hyde Park Village Tree Lighting

Last Saturday, for the first time that anyone could remember, the Village of New Hyde Park was forced, due to the heavy downpour of rain that turned to snow, to hold its tree lighting ceremony…inside. The switch was relocated at Marcus Christ Hall and at the appointed time it was thrown to light up the beautifully lit tree on the front lawn of village hall.

Prior to the tree lighting ceremonies the children were entertained with the Magic of Amore and his zany tricks. They were thrilled and responded to the magician by participating in many of his tricks.

As soon as the tree was lit Santa Claus came through the front door of Marcus Christ Hall and delighted all of the many children with goodies.

The members of the New Hyde Park Memorial Choir and members of the New Hyde Park Memorial orchestra were on hand to lend music to the festivities.

All of the celebration and its smooth execution, in light of the circumstances, was due to the efforts and hard work of New Hyde Park Cultural Commissioner Lisa Miranda and her staff.

Williston Park Village Tree Lighting

Last Sunday at about 6 p.m. village officials and residents and lots of children from Williston Park Village gathered to sing Christmas Carols and to officially light the Williston Park Christmas tree on the grounds of village hall.

The Girl Scouts, Brownies and everyone who wanted to joined the members of the South Shore Brass Orchestra in singng traditional Christmas Carols. However, just before the sirens of the Williston Park fire trucks grew closer, Williston Park Mayor Ludwig Odierna, along with the Williston Park American Legion Commander David Starr, pulled the switch that lit the village Christmas tree.

As the fire truck approached everyone ran to the edge of the village lawn to see Santa and his “friends” arrive atop the fire truck, round the corner and park in front of the Williston Park Library where goodies were given to all the hundreds of children who attended.
