Nassau County Museum of Art Under the Big Top
From now until May 24 the Nassau County Museum of Art, MiniArt Museum under the Big Top. With its color, daring and explosive fun, the circus has always been a theme that intrigues and inspires artists. In Under the Big Top, NCMA’s MiniArtMuseum for Children presents reproductions of circus art by Seurat, Léger, Prendergast, Toulouse-Lautrec, Picasso, Chagall and others, showcasing them alongside displays that will guide the museum’s young visitors through explorations of circus skills, endangered animals and memory games using circus characters and activities. The Clown College station includes wall panels that will assist children to master the skills involved in pantomime, juggling and creating a clownish costume. Room boxes will include miniature circus animals; wall titles assist visitors in identifying which are endangered. Nassau County Museum of Art is located at One Museum Drive (just off Northern Boulevard, Route 25A, two traffic lights west of Glen Cove Road.) in Roslyn Harbor. Hours are 11 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Docent-led tours of the exhibition are offered at 2 p.m. each day. Admission to the main building, the Arnold & Joan Saltzman Fine Art Building, is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors (62+) and $4 for students and children ages 4-12; includes admission to the MiniArtMuseum for Children. Smart Move-Long Island’s First Lego League
From now until Jan. 17 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Are you a Lego lover? Do you have curious kids? Can’t wait to see what this year’s Lego challenge will be? Then join us for a special LICM weekend featuring local teams gearing up for the 2009-10 First Lego League competition themed “Smart Move.” Kids from 5-14 will be developing robotic solutions to the real world challenge of moving people, goods and services safely and efficiently. Come on down to cheer on several of our local teams and get a preview of the game board, challenges and preliminary solutions they’re developing before the first qualifying round. All ages. Elk/Does Club Night At The Races
The Elk/Does Club of New Hyde Park Night at The Races to begin at 6:30 p.m. $15 admission includes: Loin of pork dinner, hot dogs, beer, wine and soda. There will also be available a cash bar. Holy Spirit to Offer Defensive Driving Course
The Church of The Holy Spirit, 500 Jericho Turnpike, New Hyde Park is offering a Defensive Driving Course sponsored by the National Safety Council. The cost is $45. With course, participants will earn a 10 percent reduction in the liability and collisions portions of their insurance premium and it will also remove up to four points from a driving record.
