Commissoner Ernest J. Cipullo reports the arrest of Long Beach resident Alan Gershberg for eight counts of criminal mischief, which he said resulted in excess of $45,000 in damages to the victims’ vehicles.
According to police, beginning in early 2009 Garden City residents began to experience inordinate extensive damage to their parked cars in their driveways. Garden City Police Detective/ Sergeant Bartkowski and Detectives Madden and Rothermel were assigned to investigate; however, all leads were exhausted and the cases remained open. Toward the end of 2009, these same victims again were targeted. Upon reviewing all open criminal reports, a pattern was developed and it was discovered that all of the victims were employees of the same company. With the help of detectives from the Nassau County Intelligence Section, it was further determined that several other employees also were victims, including some from New York City.
Recently, detectives developed information that led to the subject. Further investigation revealed that the subject also was a former employee of the same company. During his employment, police said he had developed and harbored a longstanding grudge against the other employees. In early 2009, he developed a target list of 15 employees and began to systematically exact revenge, according to the police. The subject was arrested, processed and transported to First District Court in Hempstead pending arraignment.
Assisting in the investigation were detectives from the Nassau County’s 3rd, 6th and 1st Detective Squads with NYPD Mid Town South Detectives. The investigation will continue.
