The Chinese Association of North Hempstead (CAANH) held their 13th annual gala recently at the Crest Hollow Country Club where 250 guests enjoyed a wonderful evening. Attendees socialized over scrumptious cocktails and drinks followed by a delicious dinner and dancing to lively music provided by a DJ. Guests were thoroughly entertained by a member of the Chinese Acrobatic Circus: Happy Chef, whose balancing skills amused and amazed guests.
Co-presidents Alice Chan and Lana Choy welcomed many distinguished guests to this event, which included officials serving the Town of North Hempstead: Senator Craig Johnson, Supervisor Jon Kaiman, Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel and Councilwoman Maria-Christina Poons, who came with her husband. Other notable guests included Superintendent Dr. Bierwirth of Herricks Schools and former Republican candidate for public office, Lee Tu. CAANH is especially grateful to Senator Johnson for his efforts in securing grants in the amount of $10,000, both for this year as well as the coming year. These funds are utilized in providing enriching educational and cultural programs for the community.
The annual event would not be possible without the support of generous sponsors. Silver sponsors included Dr. James Cui, Everlasting Distributors, Inc., Shanghai Commercial Bank Ltd. and Yung Kee Group. Bronze sponsors included Great World Management Corporation, International Food Connection, Inc., Dr.& Mrs. Roland Nyein, OCA-Long Island, Summit Associates, WAC Lighting, Dr. & Mrs. Stephen Wan, and Wonton Food, Inc. A donation from SPK Lewis Construction is also appreciated. The Board of CAANH truly appreciates the support of these individuals, businesses and organizations.
Many generous donors also contributed impressive raffle gifts that were won by lucky ticket holders. The winner of the Specialty Raffle was Michelle Schimel, who won a gold and diamond necklace donated by Albert & Cora Yim. Proceeds from this special raffle will fund the Chinese language classes which are held at the Manhasset library. The big winner of the General Raffle was one of the past presidents of CAANH, Mrs. Andie Lam, who won a diamond color stone ring donated by Mrs. Carroll Ho.
