Comptroller DiNapoli’s decision to continue investigating special districts on Long Island is prudent and logical. His most recent discovery of the wasteful spending in the Setauket Fire District is a perfect example of why Comptroller Maragos should continue the audits started by former Comptroller Weitzman. So why does Comptroller Maragos think it is unnecessary to audit Nassau’s special districts? I want these audits to be done, so I know that my tax dollars aren’t being spent inappropriately.
I’m hoping my legislator, Joe Belesi, is going to speak up for me about Mr. Maragos’ reckless decision. I’ve heard nothing from Legislator Belesi since he’s been in office. His promise of lower taxes and cutting county spending has been equal to his presence in his district: non-existent. Legislator Belesi do the job that you promised us.
