School Board Members to Meet With Lowe’s Representatives

At the last New Hyde Park/Garden City Park school board meeting, school board superintendent Robert Katulak, along with other board members, announced that Lowe’s Box Store has requested a meeting with school board representatives on April 20 at 7:30 p.m. at the Manor Oaks School boardroom. The representatives from the board will be trustees Annette Giarratani, Patricia Rudd and Dr. Alan Cooper. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the feasibility of purchasing the property where Spring Rock Golf used to be and to develop it into a very large box store. The property is just south off Hillside Avenue on Denton Avenue, a two-way street that rests on a landfill that has no lining. Many residents in attendance protested the proposed Lowe’s development since in order to build such a building it would mean breaking through whatever possible cap of protection is there and possibly allowing methane gasses to escape. The meeting is open to the public but no input from the public will be allowed.
