Huntington Militia to Encamp
The Huntington Militia will encamp at Old Bethpage Village Restoration, Round Swamp Rd., Old Bethpage, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., where it will demonstrate military camp life, take part in drills and fire genuine muskets. The program, taking place alongside the 18th-century Martin Schenck House, will also include demonstrations from crafts people and opportunities for children to march, drill and learn to fire a “musket.” The Order of the Ancient and Honorable Huntington Militia, one of the oldest organizations in the U.S., was formed in 1653 to provide defense for the Dutch settlements of New Netherlands. The Art of Casual Elegance
Design enthusiasts have a rare opportunity to learn how design professionals shop with a free guided tour of one of the design industry’s leading resources for fabric and furniture. Mindy Miles Greenberg, a Long Island-based interior designer, will present “The Art of Casual Elegance” at Robert Allen | Beacon Hill’s trade-only showroom at 220 Crossways Park West, Suite B, Woodbury, at 1 p.m. During the tour, Mindy will explain her process for creating stylish and personalized interiors. Mindy may look familiar to fans of Home and Garden television as she has hosted dozens of segments of Decorating Cents, which you can view on her website www.EncoreDecor.com . All children in attendance will be offered the same meals at no separate charge, with no physical segregation of, or other discriminating against, any child because of race, color, age, national origin, sex or handicap. Helping Hand for Caregivers
Caring for Caregivers is a nonprofit committee founded out of concern for those members of the community who are providing 24-hour care and supervision for a loved one in their home. The goal is to provide up to eight hours of professional respite care each month. The application process is need-based, easy to complete and respectful of the caregiver’s privacy. Once the application has been approved, the caregiver will contract with the agency of his/her choice for provision of service, for four hours during any two-week period, up to a maximum of eight hours per month. Applications are currently being accepted from the Plainview-Old Bethpage, Bethpage, Syosset, Woodbury and Hicksville areas. The committee’s hope is that these few hours will provide a little breathing space so that the caregiver can attend to his/her own needs. Call Sara 698-9750 for an application.
