Letter: Thank You to a Community That Unites

If you had MapQuested the community known as New Hyde Park/Garden City Park on Saturday June 5th your result would be just your normal Long Island town of section, blocks and lots, but if you did the same on June 6th between the hours of 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. your search would result in a community united.

A community that became one family joined by one common goal, a goal to raise money to find a cure for MS.   With the state of the economy put aside this family did what a family does best and came together.   They came together with no questions asked, just with love in their heart.

Local businesses without hesitation donated raffle items, food items and/or sponsor checks. Jimmy Tubbs and Walk Street opened theirs doors and never uttered the word no, just let us do what we need to do.

For the second year in a row,  Mary Sheridan took the idea “Cocktails For a Cure” I had in my head for 2 years and ran with it.  She coordinated an event in 4 weeks that a team of event planners couldn’t pull off in months.

Dan “the DJ Man” Wesler kept us laughing and helped make this family complete.  I cannot find the words to thank everyone involved..  So I write this with the hope this community understands on behalf of Donny Barbieri and myself and the thousands afflicted with this horrible disease, just how thankful we are for the support of everyone involved and everyone who came.

To quote the sponsor board, “Once again, our hearts are full with the outpouring of love we have received and the steps you have enabled us to take as we come closer and closer to our dream for a cure….”
