A Family Ice Cream Social
It’s time to celebrate the end of the school year and the beginning of summer with a “Family Ice Cream Social” at the Boys & Girls Club of Oyster Bay-East Norwich from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Join club members, along with their family and friends, to participate in this family event hosted by the club‘s Parents’ Council and sponsored by Oyster Bay Dunkin’ Donuts/Baskin Robbins. Club members and their guests are invited to enjoy delicious Baskin Robbins ice cream, topped with their favorite treats. Stop by the Clubhouse today in order to register. This event is free, however, in order to attend, at least one participant must be club member. A fee of $35 and completion of the membership application by a parent/guardian is all that is required to join. Parents must provide supervision for their children and guests. John P. Humes Japanese Stroll Garden
Located at 347 Oyster Bay Rd., Mill Neck, provides a retreat for passive recreation and contemplation. Moving through the garden, where the views, textures and balance of elements have been planned following Japanese aesthetic principles, visitors experience a walking meditation inducing inner peace. The garden suggests a hillside landscape beside the sea, where gravel paths represent streams that form pools and cascades, eventually flowing into the ocean represented by a pond. Private tours are conducted on Thursdays and Fridays. Reservations are required for all tours. Call 676-4486. Open to the public Saturdays and Sundays from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (last admission 4 p.m.). Public guided tours followed by a demonstration of the Japanese tea ceremony are given at 10 a.m. Also on July 17, Sept. 11, Oct. 2, 16. Fee $12 per person.

Blood Drive
The Italian-American Citizens Club is holding a community blood drive at its headquarters, 48 Summit St, from 3 to 9 p.m. A spaghetti and meatball dinner will be served with every donation of blood. The blood drive is co-hosted by Gene King and Ernie Muller.

Walk in the Woods

Muttontown Preserve Third Meeting
Join Saratoga Associates as they present a schematic layout of the site; and priorities of ideas to be implemented- the next step in their planning process for the Muttontown Preserve. 7:15 p.m. at the Hoffman Center. “We look forward to your continued public participation and feedback. Artwalks
The Oyster Bay hamlet will be “the place to be” on the first Thursday of the month between 7 and 9 p.m. The program offers artwalks in the local galleries that will be open and featuring exhibitions of artists from around the world. Other businesses in the downtown area will also be showing artwork. Restaurants will be offering 20 percent off on meals; wine-tastings; burger and beer specials; along with indoor and outdoor music and art. Cafés and restaurants will be open for dessert and coffee specials and will also have art displayed. Currently Jessica Semins is a regular Thursday evening performer at Fiddleheads. She plays the fiddle and offers Irish songs as well as original songs. The artwalks will begin at Chase Edwards Gallery, 15 E. Main St. (802-0655) followed by a visit to the Atelier Gallery Fine Arts. 9 E. Main St. (205-0907) and The Teaching Studios, 115 Audrey Ave. (971-597-2404) which will also be open offering a workshop evening and a tour of their facilities.
