5-K Marathon and Half Marathon In Store for LI Women

Lots of runners are great at the 5K distance and lots of other runners prefer the longer half marathon distance, but Long Island’s two classic women’s races will be teaming up to see who are the most versatile female runners at both distances.

Women of all ages are encouraged to participate in both the 27th Annual Arrow Exterminating 5-Kilometer Run in Farmingdale on Saturday, July 17 and the inaugural Divas Half Marathon at Long Island, taking place in Eisenhower Park on Sunday, October 3.

The woman with the best combined time overall for the two events and the masters woman with the best combined time overall for the two events will each be presented with a valuable merchandise prize.  In addition, a valuable merchandise prize will also be selected at random among those who have successfully completed both races.

“This will be an interesting test for those who choose to take it,” observed Robert Pozo, director of the Divas Half Marathon and President of Continental Event & Sports Management Group, LLC.  “The best part is the timing, as runners will have exactly 12 weeks to prepare for the half marathon after completing the 5-kilometer run.”

In connection with those 12 weeks, Bob Cook and the gang at the Runner’s Edge will be conducting some amazing training sessions to get you ready for the run and you and all your girlfriends can enjoy a program specifically designed with the woman in mind. Some other perks like ladies only sales, training tips await you with our friends at Runner’s Edge.

“I am really excited about the prospect of a two race multi-distance series designed for women only right here on Long Island,” said Arrow Exterminating Company Long Island Women’s 5 Kilometer Run Director Debbie Blair.  “The fast flat Farmingdale course will test the gals at one extreme and, 12 weeks later, they will be tested at the tough half marathon distance.  This is a real double challenge for the ladies of the New York Metropolitan area, and I have no idea how it will turn out. ”
