A Tribute to a Legend: Davi Sings Sinatra
Conceived by Robert Davi, directed by Bob Spiotto, creative consultant Chazz Palminteri. Robert Davi’s first passion is singing. He studied under Samuel Margolis, famed singing teacher at the Metropolitan Opera, who also taught Robert Merrill, the man who Sinatra would sometimes call upon for vocal workshops. Interestingly, Davi’s career in entertainment began when he acted alongside the Chairman of the Board himself, Frank Sinatra, in Contract on Cherry Street. How appropriate that Robert has come full circle and pays tribute to the man who gave him his start and kept an eye on him throughout the years. The Last Night of Ballyhoo
From the Pulitzer Prize-winning author Alfred Uhry, comes a touching and bittersweet comedy, set in 1939 Atlanta, of an upperclass Jewish family coping with budding romances, the rumblings of World War II, the premiere of Gone With the Wind and, above all, Ballyhoo, the biggest social event of the year. Free Breast Cancer Support Groups
The Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer program is offering new support groups. There is no cost for any group; however preregistration is required. • For Women with Metastatic Breast Cancer. An afternoon group will meet weekly for eight weeks on Tuesdays from 1:30 to 3 pm.
• The Close Knit Group, a support and handicraft group (knitting, crocheting and/or sewing) for women with breast cancer. This daytime group meets monthly on Tuesdays from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on July 13 and Aug. 3.

Creative Cups
The life-affirming art/fundraising event of the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program, is returning and people are invited to participate by creating an “art bra” to be auctioned off. Last year’s event brought in over 200 Creative Cups, ordinary bras that were transformed into works of art. They were created by artists, art students, children, breast cancer survivors and their friends and family members. Submitted creations must be received by Aug. 2, to be included in the auction/gala (March 15, 2011 at Adelphi University). Those wishing to create a bra are encouraged to sign up early, as entrants will be limited to 200. Creative Cups celebrates the lives of those living with breast cancer and those we have lost to this terrible disease. •Anxiety and Depression Group, a free self-help group for anxiety, panic disorder, depression, OCD and other nervous fears now meets every Thursdays at 8 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church, corner of Chester Ave. and New Hyde Park Rd. Through the Recovery International process, members learn to manage stress, panic, anxiety, depression, anger, irrational fears, phobias, compulsions, obsessions and other emotional or behavioral problems. Members also learn how to face and manage psychosomatic symptoms such as heart palpitations, dizziness, shortness of breath, sweats, fatigue, headaches, numbness, chest pressure and sleep problems. All group leaders are trained lay volunteers who have experienced some type of difficulty with an emotional problem and practice the Recovery International method of self-help.
