From the Desk of Dr. Herman Sirois, Levittown Superintendent of Schools

Everyone in the Levittown Public Schools looks forward to welcoming back our students and to sharing a wonderful year filled with learning and growth.

In preparation for the 2010-11 school year, many of our teachers worked on curriculum projects over the summer. Curricula were developed for some new courses and others were revised to ensure that Levittown students continue to be exposed to high standards of education. As always, our buildings were thoroughly cleaned and maintained. The custodial staff has worked diligently to ensure that our students have safe, clean schools to return to in September.

We are pleased to announce the opening of the PowerSchool Parent Portal for all schools, grades K-12. Through this PowerSchool student information system, parents will have real-time access to attendance and report card information as well as a link to Nutrikids. Beginning September 2010 paper report cards will only be available upon request. For parents’ convenience, the dates of on-line availability of report cards are noted on the district calendar.

During the 2009-10 school year, the Levittown Board of Education established the Levittown 2020 Task Force and charged it with assessing and projecting the quality of education in our community until the year 2020 and beyond. The 2020 Task Force consists of representatives from all parts of our community. In the fall, a questionnaire will be available for all members of the Levittown School District community to provide feedback. Future educational decisions will take into consideration the information gathered in this process.

During these difficult financial times, our budget assures fiscal stability and responsibility while maintaining academic excellence. We continue to rely on the assistance of the Levittown community, including the PTA, the Levittown Community Council and the Levittown Youth Council and we appreciate their support in many areas. Along with the Board of Education and administration, these groups work for the betterment of the community.

As always, we look forward to the 2010-11 school year being a very successful one for the students of Levittown. We will continue to uphold our stated mission, Success for Every Student.
