Organized and run by Williston Park Village Trustee William Darmstadt, the Village of Williston Park held a very moving ceremony to memorialize and never forget those from the village perished in the attacks at the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.
The event was held at the Memorial Garden at the Williston Park Little League Field that was created and maintained by the Williston Park Little League.
John Hogan was the master-of-ceremonies and he introduced all the guest speakers, who did not speak in lengthy messages, but what they all said was very meaningful.
North Hempstead Town Supervisor Jon Kaiman gave a stirring speech condemning the senseless act that needlessly took so many lives on that beautiful September morning nine years ago, much like this very September 11.
North Hempstead Town Councilman Angelo Ferrara, New York State Assemblyman Thomas McKevitt, New York State Senator Craig Johnson and Williston Park Mayor Paul Ehrbar all added their thoughts, stressing that no matter how many years have elapsed, the country and those in this area will never forget the day and the consequence of the events.
Both Pastor Thomas Fisher, of St. John’s Lutheran Church and Pastor Chet Easton of the 1se Presbyterian Church of Mineola, were on hand to add their spiritual thoughts of the day..
Williston Park Village Trustee William Darmstadt had the sad task of reading the names of those who were lost that day including: Peter Langone, Thomas Langone, Patrick McQuirk and Donna Wilson.
John Lawless. Robert Robesch and Timothy Farrell led off the ceremony with the presentation of the “colors” and the singing of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
Many of the members of both the boys and girls little league teams were also on hand to commemorate the solemn day.
