Series of Final Calls Stun Dalers

After 45 minutes of football at Don Snyder Stadium Sunday, Sept. 19 the Dalers’s Kevin Wahl scored a touchdown on a 65-yard run to give the team a 20-12 lead. In a tough battle against the East Meadow Jets, this eight point lead with 2:42 left in the game should have been enough to win the game, but what happen in the remaining time stunned the Dalers.

On fourth down and eleven, the Jets threw a sideline pass from their #19. A Daler defender hit the receiver; the ball was not caught and went out of bounds. Incomplete pass? Dalers ball? Nope. The officials ruled it a completed pass good for a Jet first down to continue the drive. The Jets moved the ball down field to the Dalers 15-yard line with 30 seconds left in the game. On the fourth down the Dalers defense rushed the Jets QB and sacked him. After he is knocked down he rolls the ball away from him. Dalers Ball? Nope. The officials ruled it a fumble. It was picked up by another Jet and ran into the end zone, bringing the score to 20-18 Dalers. The Dalers’ defense would come up big again and stop the 2-point conversion.

The Jets pulled an onside kick and got the ball back with 15 seconds left on the clock. The Jets tried three more plays before the Dalers defense again held the Jets to a few yards as the clock ticks down to zero. Dalers win? Nope. The officials claim the Jets called timeout and put two seconds back on the clock. East Meadows kicker Hector Guerrero hit a 48-yard field goal to give the Jets a 21-20 win over the Dalers. The Dalers could not overcome these crazy events in the last 2:42 of the game. The Dalers are now 1-1 this year.
