The Second Half of Village Taxes. which were due and payable on Dec. 1, 2010 are subject to penalty if payment is not made within a thirty day grace period. This year payments received after Jan. 3, 2011, will be subject to penalty. Please return the “second half” bill stub with your payment made payable to the Incorporated Village of Garden City. Please remember that Village Hall will be closed on Dec. 31 in observance of the New Year’s holiday. For your convenience, tax payments may be placed in the letter slot at the easterly entrance to Village Hall.

Veterans Real Property Tax Exemption. The deadline for applications for veterans tax exemptions is Dec. 30, 2010. Applications cannot be accepted after the close of business on that date.

Please be advised that due to this week’s blizzard, the recycling collection for Monday, Dec. 27, was rescheduled for Monday, Jan. 3. Recycling will be picked up on that day and we apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause you.

Holiday Sanitation Schedule — New Year’s Week

Garbage:

January Board of Trustees’ Meeting

Residents are reminded that there is only one board of trustees’ meeting in January. The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Board will be on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, at 8 p.m. at the Village Hall.

Collection of Christmas Trees and Wreaths for Recycling

If you have a live Christmas tree or wreath to dispose of, please leave them at the curb on your regularly scheduled recycling collection day. They will be collected by the Department of Public Works and offered to other agencies for beach erosion control or rendered at the Village Yard for use around trees and shrubs as mulch.

Please assist the village by removing tree stands from the discarded trees and cooperate with your neighbors by disposing of them only on the scheduled recycling collection days. This collection of trees will continue for the next several weeks. We can only hope that the weather, in particular the snow, holds out until all trees and wreaths are collected.

Village’s Website

I encourage residents to periodically utilize the village’s website for information regarding the village’s operations, as well as items of seasonal and special interest. The address is www.garden cityny.net. For your convenience, listed on the village’s home page under the Heading of the Department of Public Works are guidelines for Garbage, Rubbish and Recycling.
