Can social media overthrow governments?
Malcolm Gladwell didn’t think so when he wrote an article in the New Yorker last fall that social media sites like Facebook and Twitter are not strong enough to overthrow governments.
The author of “Tipping Point,” is getting some heat now because of recent events in Egypt, where social media was used to gather protesters, and to give protesters a voice.
Gladwell argued in Feb. 2 blog post for the New Yorker that people protested and brought down governments before Facebook and Twitter were ever around.
Gladwell is also the author of “Blink,” “What the Dog Saw,” and “Outliers.”
