In the past, the Chamber of Commerce of Oyster Bay and East Norwich has given out awards to those businesses whose owners take particular pride in the exterior of their buildings. Awards have been received by Dodds and Eder, Stifel Nicolaus and Nobman’s Hardware.
As the present season is winding down, the hamlet seems to be suffering from the refuse and trash left behind after a particularly snowfilled winter. Using the former award winners as examples, the Chamber would like to encourage all businesses, landlords and property owners (even residential) to take pride in the exteriors of their buildings. By burning some calories expending elbow grease to clean up the sidewalk and street in front of their buildings/homes—we can all benefit by creating cleaner, more attractive surroundings. Actually two purposes will be served: sweeping, bending, and lifting can help us get in shape for the shorts we will soon be wearing and we will be paving the way for a “clean slate” for the spring plantings that are not far away!
So please do your individual part. Many hands makes for little work. This is our hamlet—take pride in it! – Michelle Browner, Oyster Bay-East Norwich Chamber of Commerce president.
P.S.
The editor is truly grateful for the editorial comments by Ms. Browner. It is amazing how long the snow is still piled up in places.
