Time for an Easter Egg Hunt

The Garden City Recreation Department is once again sponsoring the annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 23 at Garden City Community Park. This year three hunts will be held beginning at 10 a.m., with three age divisions: preschool to kindergarten, grades one and two; and grades three to five. Special eggs will be stuffed and hidden for all divisions and each hunt will also feature a grand prize (an Easter basket filled with goodies), which will go to the youngster who finds the egg marked “Number One Lucky Egg.” For further information about the Hunt, call the Recreation Department at 465- 4075. For weather updates the day of the hunt, call Community Park at 483-2525. The raindate for the Easter Hunt will be Monday, April 25 at 10 a.m.

Aquafina Pitch, Hit and Run Competition

The Recreation Department will again run the local section of Aquafina’s Pitch, Hit and Run Competition. Registration is now taking place at the Recreation Administrative Office at 108 Rockaway Ave. This free competition incorporates baseball skills on a 60-foot field, with the winners competing against other Long Island winners at a later date. The local competition will be held on Thursday, April 28 at 4 p.m. at Grove Park. In order to compete, the child must be registered for the program by Wednesday, April 27.

Register for Spring Zumba

Our Recreation Department will run a spring season of very popular Zumba classes in St. Paul’s Cluett Hall. Classes are taught by a certified Zumba instructor, Felicia Lovaglio, and will run for seven weeks according to the following schedule:

Tuesdays at 7:45 p.m. beginning April 26

Thursdays at 9:15 a.m. beginning April 28

Saturdays at 9 a.m. beginning April 30

The cost for each session will be $63.

Children’s Tennis Lessons

The Garden City Recreation Department’s Tennis Center is pleased to announce the start of registration for its youth spring program. Spring tennis classes are offered to Garden City residents ages 4 through 10 years old. All classes will begin the week of Monday, May 2, and run for six weeks. The schedule and fees for this year’s youth classes are as follows (all classes are 55 minutes long):

Mondays:

4 p.m. Pee Wee (beginner lessons for ages 5-6) $80

4 p.m. Tots (beginner lessons for ages 4-5) $80

5 p.m. Novice (advanced lessons for ages 6-7) $130

5 p.m. Junior (beginner lessons for ages 8-10) $130

Tuesdays:

4 p.m. Tots $80

4 p.m. Novice $130

5 p.m. Pee Wee $80

5 p.m. Junior $130

Wednesdays:

4 p.m. Pee Wee $80

4 p.m. Tots $80

5 p.m. Novice $130

5 p.m. Junior $130

Thursdays:

4 p.m. Tots $80

4 p.m. Novice $130

5 p.m. Pee Wee $80

5 p.m. Junior $130

Spring/Summer Adult Tennis Lessons Registration Begins

The Garden City Recreation Department will conduct evening tennis lessons for adults who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City at the Community Park Tennis Facility. The lessons will run for one hour each week in three sessions during the spring/summer months. The registrant has a choice of a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday class and a choice of time. There will be a maximum of four players per court. The dates and fees will be as follows:

Session 1 – 6 weeks beginning May 2 Cost: $150

Session 2 – 4 weeks beginning July 5 Cost: $100

Session 3 – 4 weeks beginning Aug. 2 Cost: $100

To register, visit the Recreation’s Administrative Offices at 108 Rockaway Ave., by April 22. Separate checks for each session please.
