Organ Recital

Andrew Sheranian is the organist and master of choristers at the Parish of All Saints, Ashmont in Boston, an Anglo-Catholic church known for its Fisk organ and Choir of Men and Boys. Andrew is a graduate of Yale University, has given recitals throughout the United States and undertook a concert tour of Japan in 2006. He is on the board of directors of the Royal School of Church Music in America and was formerly regional chair of the Association of Anglican Musicians. Andrew will be playing music of J. S. Bach, Maurice Durufle and Josef Rheinberger. The recital will be at 8 p. m. at the Cathedral of the Incarnation. A Day of Lacrosse, Monster’s Kids

The day at Manhasset High School will include: a LI Lizards practice 9 a.m.; Woodstick Alumni Lacrosse Game and Post Game Party noon; Garden City vs. Manhasset in 120th Woodstick Classic 7 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the renovation of a critical playroom at the Cohen Children’s Medical Center, New Hyde Park. Defensive Driving Course

Knights of Columbus #11836 at St Anne’s Church in Garden City is offering the community the Empire Safety Council’s Defensive Driving Course. The course will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the St Anne’s Church cafeteria – LL, 35 Dartmouth St. Upon completion of this course, participants are eligible for 10 percent off motor vehicle insurance for three years and/or a reduction of points from driver’s license. War and Peace in Sudan

Molloy College and The Institute for Interfaith Dialogue will present a lecture titled War and Peace In Sudan: The Religious Dimension on at 3 p.m. in the Hays Theatre, Wilbur Arts Center, Molloy College, 1000 Hempstead Ave., Rockville Centre. This event is free and open to the public. You will be fascinated by the expert speakers’ attempts to bring peace among various ethnic groups in war- torn countries. The guests will include: Ambassador Alan Goulty, a senior scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center, who conducted peace talks in the Middle East and North Africa; Dr. Lillian Craig Harris who worked as intelligence analyst and foreign service officer of the State Department. As director of Together for Sudan, an educational charity for Sudanese women and children, she goes to Sudan twice a year; the U.S. Department of State, Consular Officer Nilesh K. Shah, chief investment officer to poverty stricken countries. He oversees dozens of projects that sustain survival of the groups of people whose lives have been thrown into chaos by religious bias. Westbury Friends School Curriculum Exhibit

Salvation Army Benefit Band Concert

The concert will be held at 7 .m. at the Cathedral of the Incarnation, Garden City. Proceeds from sponsorships and journal ads will be used to benefit the youth enrichment programs of The Salvation Army including sending deserving children to Star Lake Camp in New Jersey. The camp has provided numerous warm, happy memories for thousands of youngsters. It offers a vacation of joy and an experience that will be treasured for a lifetime, including sports, academic and musical activities. Café Ablaze Christian Coffeehouse

Popular longtime school Band Director, Peter Stanganelli, will lead his own Christian rock band, Peter Stanganelli and Rapture. Preceding them onstage will be Jeffrey Ballard, an accomplished jazz saxophonist, singer and youthful ordained church elder. Seating is at elegantly-decorated candlelit tables in a beautifully decorated “café.” Offerings include flavored coffees and teas, delectable desserts, a healthy fruit salad and bottled water. Half the band’s proceeds benefit LI’s Interfaith Nutrition Network. Doors open at 7 p.m.; performance begins at 7:30 p.m. Half-hour intermission includes door prize drawings and gelato. Evening ends at 10:15 p.m. Enter Resurrection Lutheran Church, 420 Stewart Ave., near Clinton Rd. on the Emmet Pl. Tickets, only sold at the door, are $10 each or “twofer” $15. Benefit Concert

Uruguayan-American pianist Polly Ferman will present a benefit concert at 8 p.m. at the Adelphi University Performing Arts Center on the campus of Adelphi University, 1 South Ave. The concert is presented by HOLA of Garden City. Proceeds from this special event will benefit the De La Salle School for Boys in Freeport and Pan American Musical Art Research of Manhattan. Ms. Ferman will perform a program of classic tangos, habaneras and milongas in which she will present the music and its history, which she has brought to audiences around the world. Stroke Life Society is a community organization of survivors and co-survivors in the pursuit of living and helping others. A stroke can be very isolating. Anger Management

Contact Lani McElgun, M.A., LMFT, at 520 Franklin Ave., Suite 213, or call 428-1167 for information on the following: Group: Turn angry behaviors into more productive ones; learn healthier ways to communicate with spouse, children, co-workers. Individual: Combine individual therapy and anger management techniques. Both are held on a weekly basis and facilitated by a licensed marriage and family therapist, also certified in anger management. Court mandates welcome.

Bereavement Groups

•Group 1: A woman’s bereavement group is available to help women share and learn about their grief. Groups are held on a weekly basis and are facilitated by a licensed clinical social worker.

•Group 2: A 12-week bereavement support group is available for children ages 7 to 9. Groups will be held on Saturdays and are facilitated by a licensed social worker.

Cradle of Aviation Museum

In the world of aviation, signals and coded messages are an important part of how airplanes and air traffic control speak everyday. The Cradle of Aviation Museum has a variety of free family activities. Walk through the eight museum galleries and you’ll walk through over 100 years of aerospace history with 75 planes and space craft and a variety of examples of how pilots navigated and communicated from the early days of flight through the space program. Museum activities are free with admission and are available each day from noon to 4 p.m. The museum also is home to the IMAX Dome Theatre and is located on Charles Lindbergh Blvd., Museum Row. NC Coalition Against Domestic Violence

The Coalition is a member agency of the Garden City Community Fund, United Community Fund of Great Neck, Community Chest of Port Washington and United Way of LI. Call 222-2293 for information the following:

•Support groups with individual counseling for incest survivors and survivors of rape and sexual assault. Services are confidential and free of charge. These services are also extended to family members and partners of survivors.

•The coalition operates a safe home for battered women and their children. The Coalition’s Safe Home for Abused Families provides shelter, advocacy and legal assistance, in a safe, warm, supportive, attractive environment. Call the 24-hour hotline 542-0404. The hotline and all services are free and confidential and a counselor can help you find safety.

•If you are 60 or older and suffering from abuse, mistreatment or neglect at the hands of family members or someone who is living with you, help is available. Counseling, legal advocacy and support services to seniors in need of help is offered. All services are free and confidential. Call 542-0404.

Epilepsy Foundation

Located at 506 Stewart Ave. (739-7733) the following is offered:

•Free Puppet Show on Seizure Disorder. A free children’s program on epilepsy using the internationally acclaimed “Kids on the Block” troupe of puppets to public and private elementary schools. These shows are appropriate for the 3rd and 4th grades levels but can be tailored to your needs. Programs are also available for junior and senior high classes. Call Janet Romeo, ext. 145.

•Support Groups. Do you have seizures? Are you having difficulty with jobs, relationships, etc.? Are you isolating from your family and friends? If you answered yes to any or all of the above questions, we have group for you. Call Jennifer Colbert, CSW, ext. 400.

Quilt Exhibit

The Mallette Gallery at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Central Nassau, 223 Stewart Ave. (at Nassau Blvd.), Garden City, will feature an exhibit of quilts by Janet May 4 through May 31. Sons of Italy

Order Sons of Italy in America is seeking new members to join the America Lodge #2245, Franklin Square, Elmont, West Hempstead, Floral Park, Garden City, Stewart Manor and Malverne.
