New Hyde Park Boy Scout Troop No. 298 will hold a car wash fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the New Hyde Park Village Muncipal lot corner of Lakeville Road and Jericho Turnpike.
Holy Spirit Rosary Altar Society Plant/Cake Sale
The Holy Spirit Rosary Altar Society will hold a plant and cake sale, in the school auditorium, from 4 to 6 p.m. and again on May 15 from 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. at 13 South 6th Street, New Hyde Park. Doe Club of New Hyde Park to Hold Chinese Auction
The Doe Club of New Hyde Park will hold its Annual Chinese Auction at the New Hyde Park Elks Club, 901 Lakeville Road, New Hyde Park, and doors to open at 6:30 p.m. Donation is $25 and will include 30 auction tickets and dinner from soup to fortune cookies. Floral Decorating at Temple Tikvah by Shelter Rock Library
Shelter Rock Public Library will present a free program on “Floral Decorating” at 11 a.m. at Temple Tikvah located at 3315 Hillside Avenue, New Hyde Park. If you’d like to see how the experts do it, you won’t want to miss this lecture/demonstration with Scott Lucas, Head Grower at Old Westbury Gardens and Westbury House floral designer. Fresh floral arrangements bring brightness and color to any room and once you learn basic principals you can enhance your own home. Mr. Lucas will introduce you to the fun and satisfying craft of floral design using materials available from your home garden, fresh flower section of any supermarket, or garden center. Basic techniques and design principles for traditional floral centerpieces will be presented.

Triathletes Invited to May 19th Clinic
Triathletes of all ages and levels of ability are cordially invited to join the Greater Long Island Running Club for the Runner’s Edge – TOBAY Triathlon Clinic. The Clinic will be held in the Auditorium of the Plainview-Old Bethpage Public Library, 999 Old Country Road in Plainview, starting promptly at 6:30 PM. This will be an invaluable evening for first time triathletes as well as for those veterans who would like their performance to improve dramatically. Highlights will include a video of the 2010 Runner’s Edge-TOBAY Triathlon, a review of the course layout, training programs, and other key ingredients of a successful triathlon experience. Although this clinic is specifically designed for those who will be competing in the August 28, 2011 Runner’s Edge-TOBAY Triathlon, it will be of benefit to anyone who is doing ANY triathlon this year. Wounded Warrior Project Fundraiser
The Wounded Warrior Project Fundraiser will be held at The Dublin Pub, 2002 Jericho Turnpike, New Hyde Park from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. This is a benefit to raise money, awareness and to celebrate those who sacrificed for our safety, our freedom and our country. Featuring Soul Doctor G’s All Star Wounded Warrior Project Band with a special guest appearance by The Cold Spring Harbor Band. An incredible night of music, dancing and fun and a chance to meet some of the nation’s heroes. Spinner’s Grinners Laughter Yoga
Take time to participate in a series of laughter, breathing and playfulness exercises with many, many health benefits. Annual New Hyde Park Memorial Day Parade
The Annual New Hyde Park Memorial Day Parade will be held on Saturday by the American Legion and the VFW. Marchers will assemble on Hillside Boulevard. Go east on Jericho Turnpike. Stop for a brief ceremony at New Hyde Park Village Hall, corner of New Hyde Park Road and Jericho Turnpike. Then proceed north on New Hyde Park Road to Lincoln Boulevard and to New Hyde Park Memorial Park where wreaths will be laid, a brief address by the New Hyde Park Village Mayor Daniel Petruccio will be delivered and then the parade will be dismissed.

Miss Irish American Society Pageant at Irish American Society
Back by popular demand, the Irish American, 297 Willis Avenue, Mineola, will present, as it’s monthly dance, the Miss Irish American Society Pageant to start at 8 p.m. featuring music by Gerard Corbett and Susan Gillespie. Contestant requirements are 18 to 25 years-old, Irish or Irish descent. There is a $25 entry fee. First place winner will receive $300 and runner up $100. Contestant will be judged on: Evening gown, Talent and Interview. The Mistress of Ceremonies is Kitty Kelly.
Williston Park Picnic at Belmont Racetrack
At Belmont Racetrack come and picnic with Williston Park friends and neighbors. Bring your own cooler lunch (no glass bottles allowed) and the Williston Park Recreation Committee will provide the dessert…the horses will provide the excitement.
