Quantcast

From the Desk of Dr. Charles Murphy: June 17, 2010

“Are you ready for the summer….are you ready for the good times…no more pencils…no books…” that music from Bill Murray’s iconic 1979 summertime classic Meatballs always resonates with me as another school year comes to a close.

Summertime is a wonderful time for kids – summer camp, vacations, the pool, late evenings, barbeques, fireworks…it seems to creep up on us suddenly and leave more quickly, so enjoy the summer of 2011 and create many memories with your children, families and friends. The 2010-11 school year has been a terrific one in Island Trees.

Reflecting back, we had many students recognized for academic success, as well as many others for their accomplishments on the stage, courts, and athletic fields. We are fortunate to have such wonderful students in our storied school district. The district experienced many changes as well — this year the district successfully closed the high school campus, which not only improved student safety and security, but also created a more conducive learning environment for our students.

Naturally, we would like to thank the class of 2011 for their leadership during this process. Without their cooperation and understanding, the change would have been much more challenging.

Equally notable this year, we restructured the Island Trees elementary schools into K&1 and 2-4 schools – Princeton Plan model.

What a year in Island Trees. On behalf of the board of education and staff, we congratulate the class of 2011 on their accomplishment and we hope all of our students and parents are blessed with a happy, healthy, and safe summer. Enjoy it…and we’ll see you in September.

On another note, Happy Father’s Day Weekend! We have so many wonderful fathers in our community and on behalf of the entire district, we wish all of our dads a wonderful day with their families.
