Word that Amy Winehouse was in the process of adopting a St. Lucian girl right before she died went public this past week.
According to the Mirror, Winehouse started the process of adopting a 10-year-old girl named Dannika Augustine, whom she met in the Caribbean. Recently, photos of the two walking along the beach surfaced.
“Amy was already my mother,” Dannika told the paper, reported Huffington Post. “I would call her ‘mum’ and she would call me her daughter. She took care of me and we had fun together. I loved her and she loved me.”
Reportedly, Dannika’s family was fine giving her up to Amy.
“Amy loved Dannika with all her heart,” said Dannika’s mom, Lambert, 57, reported New York Post. “I don’t know why Amy took to Dannika above all the other children on the island, but from the moment they met, they were inseparable.”
On July 23, Winehouse was found dead in her London home. She was 27-years-old.
Two ambulance crews were sent to her house, but the singer died before they arrived, according to Associated Press. “On arrival, officers found the body of a 27-year-old female who was pronounced dead at the scene,” reads a police statement, according to Sky News.
A funeral was held for Amy later that week. Amy’s father, Mitch told stories, some sad and some that allowed smiles from the sullen crowd. “Goodnight my angel, sleep tight. Mummy and daddy love you ever so much,” he said.
Friends of Amy took to their websites and Twitters to share including Russell Brand, who dedicated a post on his website to Amy and Kelly Osbourne, who posted a photo and tweeted, “I miss my friend! im going to be off twitter for a while thank you for all your support! #pray4amy”
