Two of the music worlds hottest female stars stood on stage before hundreds of ecstatic fans at Nassau Coliseum on Tuesday. At the venue, rising female rapper Nicki Minaj opened up for pop sensation Britney Spears in the appropriately titled tour, Femme Fatale.
Minaj started with “Roman’s Revenge” and the crowd went wild. A few songs later, the crowd was thrown a surprise when the first beats were played of a song that didn’t belong to either Minaj or Spears. It was Kanye West lending a male voice to the concert with his song “Monster,” to the surprise of concert attendees.

After Minaj finished up, the crowd waited 30 minutes in eager anticipation of Spears’ performance. At last, she fired up the stage with recent hit, “Hold it Against Me.” Throughout the rest of her concert, she mixed up her latest songs from the album of the same name with older songs including “Toxic.” She even went as far back as “Baby One More Time,” all the while dressed in risque attire from revealing to extremely revealing, from Cleopatra-like costumes to a Mahta-hari style.
Though critics felt her dancing didn’t seem to be as good as it once was, there was still plenty of good choreography throughout the show. The pop star showed signs of life particularly in the form of sexual strutting, hair whipping, and pole dancing that is synonymous with Spears’ image.
For her song “Lace and Leather,” she ties a man up to a pole, dons him with a pink boa and proceeds to dance seductively around him. At the Nassau Coliseum show, the victim was none other than her Long Island born boyfriend Jason Trawick. She brought him up on stage and used him as her centerpiece for the scandalous song.
At the end of the concert, fans were treated to one more surprise when Minaj joined Spears for her finale song, “Till the World Ends.”
Spears’ seventh concert tour began on June 16 in Sacramento, Calif. revolving around a post-apocalyptic theme with a story that portrays Spears as a secret agent being pursued by a stalker. There is a prison break segment, an Egyptian themed segment, a motorcycle theme, and a fight scene, all inspired by “Till the World Ends.” The pop star’s other openers, besides the sensational Minaj, include Joe Jonas, DJ Pauly D from the Jersey Shore, Jessie and the Toy Boys, and Nervo.
Jonas will be the opener at the tour’s next stop in East Rutherford, NJ on Aug. 5 at the Izod Center. The North American version of the tour will end in Raleigh, North Carolina on Aug. 25 at the RBC Center after which Spears will continue on to Europe and South America for an additional three-month tour.
The next concert at the Coliseum will be Tuesday, Aug. 23 when the American Idol Season 10 top 12 tour rolls through the venue. The tour will showcase talents from the number 12 spot of the competition, Karen Rodriguez, through the top three contestants: Haley Reinhart, Lauren Alaina and Idol winner Scotty McCreery.
