While the New York Islanders’ bid for a new complex might have failed earlier in the week, their other team is still looking for new members. The Islanders’ Ice Girls are holding auditions Saturday, Aug. 6 at 12 p.m. in search for new members for the upcoming hockey season.

The New York Islanders Ice Girls, the football equivalent of cheerleaders, are looking for “outgoing, energetic females” to join them on the ice. The auditions will take place at Islanders’ Iceworks in Syosset, N.Y. According to the team’s offical website, applicants should arrive “photo-ready, with hair and make-up done, wearing form-fitting athletic clothing and a crop-top half shirt.”

For those who look up to the Ice Girls as idols, you must be 18 years or older as of October 1, 2011. Additionally, those who are attending must bring a recent headshot, resume and a pair of figure skates.

In the NHL, a total of nine teams have cheerleaders or ice girls that support them. Teams such as the Dallas Stars, Tampa Bay Lighting and Pittsburgh Penguins are all franchises that consider their cheerleaders part of the team.

During the Ice Girls tryouts, participants must be able to skate backwards and “perform various skating positions, including lunges, spirals, three-turns, t-stops and power crossovers.” And for those who make it, the Islanders say Ice Girls are expected to work all 41 home games during the regular season and participate in events throughout the community.

For more information on the audition, contact Erin Willey at 516-501-6874 or [email protected]. Islanders Iceworks is located at 175 Underhill Blvd in Sysosset. The audition check-in’s start at 11:30 a.m. Show your support for your local community and come on down to Ice Works to be a part of Long Island’s finest franchise!
