“Lord, You are the source of every good thing, You are our only hope. And we stand before You today in awe of your power, and in gratitude for Your blessings; in humility for our sins,” said Governor Rick Perry during a prayer at Saturday’s “The Response.”

A crowd of over 30,000 gathered at the Texas Reliant Stadium for a night of “prayer for a nation in crisis” dubbed “The Response,” hosted by the state’s longest serving governor, Rick Perry.  1,000 churches, groups and others watched the event that took place in from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. via live web stream.

“Father, our heart breaks for America,” said Perry, reported Associated Press. “We see discord at home. We see fear in the marketplace. We see anger in the halls of government and, as a nation, we have forgotten who made us, who protects us, who blesses us.”

During the prayer, a religious Perry prayed for the United States.

“America is in the midst of a historic crisis. We have been besieged by financial debt, terrorism, and a multitude of natural disasters. The youth of America are in grave peril economically, socially and most of all, morally. There are threats emerging within our nation and beyond our borders beyond our power to solve,” read “The Response,” website.

Prior to the event, worries that it could hurt his chances of running for president became evident.

“Perry should be trying to establish recognition as the minister of job creation. This leads him to build an identity as just a minister,” said Alex Castellanos, a Republican strategist, to the Associated Press.

During the daylong prayer, Perry didn’t mention his plans to run but did ask for prayers for President Obama.
