Hurricane Irene, true to predictions, blew through New Hyde Park and surrounding areas, leaving power outages and downed trees and massive flooding.
However, due to the warnings by state, town and village official’s lives were spared and residents were given a chance to prepare. Shelters were set up in various locations including New Hyde Park Memorial High School that kept residents dry and safe and sound.
