Letter: Hudes Thanks Emergency Responders

I wanted to take a moment to thank all of those that worked through Hurricane Irene to ensure the safety and protection of the public. Firefighters and EMTs that are volunteers in our community spent their time away from their own families throughout the day and night, to make sure that our residents were safe. As always, risking their own well being to benefit others.

In addition, the police officers responded to every type of call while wind, rain and flooding proved to be a major challenge to their every movement.

Last but not least, I am very proud to serve with Kate Murray whose leadership and deployment of Town of Hempstead resources, served the residents so well on so many fronts. This was another shining moment for our town personnel that worked through the night.

With the support of friends and neighbors, I hope that members of our community recover as quickly as possible from any property damage that they have suffered from this powerful storm.
