Google Doodle honored the life of Hungarian-biochemist Albert Szent-Gyorgyi on Friday.
So why have oranges jumping out of Google’s homepage?
Szent-Gyorgyi, born on this date 118 years ago, is credited for the discovery of Vitamin C, something nobody thinks about when we down a glass of orange juice every morning.
His discovery of the vitamin led to Szent-Gyorgyi winning the 1937 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his work in biological oxidation and Vitamin C, according to the National Library of Science.
And that’s not all: The famous scientist also received the Lasker Award in Basic Medical Research in 1954 for his muscle research that contributed to the understanding of cardiovascular disease.
Search Engine Watch also pointed out that Google’s latest doodle is appropriate for the time, especially with flu season right around the corner.
The Google Doodle looks very similar to labels on juice cartons and has two oranges sticking out, with other fruits in the background.
Google Doodle is something that has gained a lot of attention over the years, especially with Google’s rise as a search engine giant.
