2012 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Nominees Announced

The nominations for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012 were announced today.

“The 2012 Nominees embody the broad scope of what ‘rock and roll’ means,” said Joel Peresman, President and CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation in a press release. “From vocal groups to hip hop, from singer-songwriters to hard rocking artists, this group represents the spirit of what we celebrate at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.”

Nominees are eligible 25 years after the release of their first single or album—2012 Nominees had to release their first recording no later than 1986.

The nominees include The Cure, Eric B. & Rakim, Guns ‘N Roses, Heart, Joan Jett and The Blackhearts, Freddie King, Rufus with Chaka Khan, The Small Faces/The Faces, The Spinners and Donna Summer.

Previous nominees are getting another chance at the Hall this year. These include The Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, War, Donovan and Laura Nyro.

“Ballots will be sent to more than 500 voters, who will select artists to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at the 27th Annual Induction Ceremony,” stated the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in a press release.

The 27th annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held in Cleveland on Saturday, April 14, 2012.
