(Editor’s note: This letter is in response to the Election Coverage feature that appeared on the cover to the Friday, Oct. 14 edition of the Farmingdale Observer.)
After reading your headline article, in your October 14, 2011 edition, about both Candidates for the Oyster Bay Supervisor I am compelled to comment.
I was astounded to read candidate John Capobianco’s statement about the TOB Republicans whom he proclaims very strongly, “borrow,” “spend,” and “tax.” He even stated that Republicans need to demonstrate “fiscal restraint.” Wow, talk about hypocrisy.
Farmingdale School Board member, John Capobianco for the past several years supported, and voted “yes” to increase the Farmingdale’s School tax burden upon every one of us taxpayers in Farmingdale, without any justification or real fiscal restraint. That’s right. He and his fellow school board members arbitrarily decided without any accounting to show that there was a real financial necessity to increase school taxes, came to their own conclusion, that the Farmingdale taxpayers would be willing to pass another school budget that included higher school taxes, as long as the increase was 3.5 percent, or less. Capobianco and his fellow board members didn’t once consider the necessity of a school tax increase, or the taxpayers’ ability to pay, nor did they do any financial analysis to justify any increase in Farmingdale’s school taxes. They arbitrarily picked a random number, up to 3.5 percent, and then went on to convince the resident taxpayers in Farmingdale, that if we didn’t pass their made up budget, services for our children would be reduced.
This same fiscal mentality, approved and supported by candidate Capobianco, now wants us voters to believe he’s got the right skills and abilities to be the next supervisor of the Town of Oyster Bay? He’s got to be kidding! My school tax bill is three to four times higher then my Town taxes.
I guess if a candidate, like Mr. Capobianco can’t stand on his own reckless fiscal track record, he’d need to attack the oppositions, even if his allegations are just not true.
