The Women’s Club of Farmingdale would like to say “Thank You” to the Farmingdale Community for their support with Art in the Park. Christy Hinko, editor of the Farmingdale Observer, was very instrumental in advertising, not only in Farmingdale, but with all the surrounding communities. Mayor George “Butch” Starkie supported this project from the onset along with Pat Christiansen, Deputy Mayor and Cheryl Parisi, village trustee and co-chairmen for Art in the Park, Bill Barrett and Ralph Ekstrand, village trustees. “Thank You” to Bob Westfall, a local artist and veteran, who donated a painting that was raffled by purchasing chances.
We appreciate the assistance from the Department of Public Works and village staff.
Debbie Podolski, president of the Chamber of Commerce and director of the Farmingdale Public Library who joined this project with support and enthusiasm. The many merchants who donated gift certificates that were awarded to the artists along with ribbons. The Farmingdale Fire Department whose assistance included putting up our banner across Main Street and allowing us to join the Columbus Day Fair.
We would be remiss if we did not thank all chairwomen and members of the Women’s Club who participated and worked diligently over the summer. Especially notable were the home-baked cakes, cookies, etc. also known as “Eatable Art”. Maria Ortolani, who worked effortlessly along with Cheryl Parisi. All the money raised will be for art scholarships to be awarded to Farmingdale High School Seniors.
Art in the Park was a wonderful event and the artists were very impressed with our hometown village. Some of the artists had never been to Farmingdale and very much enjoyed the day. The good feelings that the day brought to our community and the art that was shared made our efforts very worthwhile. It does take a village!
Frances Rotondo, Chairman – Art in the Park and Women’s Club of Farmingdale
