Nassau County Legislator Judy Jacobs’ campaign for re-election has been the recipient of actions which the Legislator refers to as “costly craziness.” Signs which are costly and labor intensive to place have been disappearing and defaced while nearby Republican signs have been left intact.
Four signs, three on Woodbury road, and one on Manetto Hill Road have been stolen. Four others have been methodically destroyed, according to Legislator Jacobs, by cutting the name out of the sign. “It is totally unbelievable. Just drive in the area and you will note that the signs for Republican candidates are untouched,” said Ms. Jacobs.
Ms. Jacobs explained that each of these signs cost close to $200. In addition, she added, as a thank you to those residents who are supporting her and allowing her to place the signs on their property, she sends a little gift and asks them to enjoy dinner with their spouse as her guest.
Of course, there is also the cost to the person who she hires to hang the signs. She estimates the loss as a result of the criminal mischief/vandalism to be approximately $1200 to $1400.
“Everyone should be outraged by this show of immaturity and cruelty. This is America and both sides in a campaign should respect each other. This truly is costly craziness,” said Ms. Jacobs of whomever is responsible for the acts of vandalism. Legislator Jacobs has filed a complaint with the Police Department at the Second Precinct in Woodbury to look into the actions.
