Friends of Hillside Library to Hold Harvest Supper

On Friday night at 6 p. m. in the All Purpose room of the Hillside Public Library, 155 Lakeville Road, New Hyde Park, will be the Friends of the Hillside Public Library’s first Harvest Supper. A full dinner will be served family style, including dessert, coffee and tea. The cost is $20 per person and will be limited to the first 60 reservations. Reservation forms are available at the Hillside Public Library. This is an adults only event.

Supermarket Fun Night at Stewart Manor School

The Stewart Manor PTA will hold a Supermarket Fun Night in the Stewart Manor gym at 7 p.m. Doors to open at 6 p.m. $5 donation includes admission, two boards, chance for a door prize, coffee and dessert. No one under the age of 18 will be admitted.


Monday, November 7

Free Flu Shots for Senior Citizens Sponsored by Clerk O’Connell

Nassau County Clerk Maureen O’Connell will once again be sponsoring the senior citizen flu shot program to be held at the Williston Park American Legion Hall, 730 Willis Avenue, Williston Park. Seniors must call for appointments prior to the actual flu shots being given at 571-2660. All seniors are welcome, so be sure to call for an appointment.

Election Day for County Legislators and Local Elected Officials

Local elections will be held for all Nassau County Legislators who are up for reelection and for all local town and county officials as well as judges. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Voting at your regular polling location. Most children will not have school on this day.


Friday, November 11

Veterans Day Ceremonies in New Hyde Park and Williston Park

Both New Hyde Park Village and Williston Park Village will hold Veterans Day ceremonies. At Williston Park Village veterans groups and public officials will assemble at 10:30 a.m. with the ceremonies at 11 a. m. at village hall and at New Hyde Park veterans and public officals will start to assemble from 10 a.m. on to be in place at 11 a.m. The Veterans Day ceremonies, traditionally, are held on the 11th month, the 11th day and at the 11th hour and that is what each village will do.

Wounded Warriors Annual Auction

Nassau County Firefighters will hold a Wounded Warriors Auction on November 11 from 7 p.m. to midnight at New Hyde Park Fire Headquarters, 500 Jericho Turnpike, New Hyde Park. Donation is $30 at the door and it includes food, beer, wine and soda. Live and Chinese auctions, plus 50/50 raffle. For further information, please call Edward Powers at 354-5429.

Meanwhile, Back on The Couch

The Billboard Players will present its fall production of Jack Sharkey’s hilarious comedy, Meanwhile, Back on The Couch at the Community Church of East Williston  at East Williston Avenue between High Street and Roslyn Road on Nov. 11 and 18 at 8 p.m. Nov. 5, 12, and 19 at 8 p.m. and Nov. 6, 13, and 20 at 3 p.m.. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for seniors. On Nov. 12 at 6:30 p.m. there will be a dinner and play package for $25 for adults and $22 for seniors. Holy Spirit Catholic Church to Hold Two-Day Christmas Fair

Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church, 13 South 6th Street, New Hyde Park will hold a two-day Christmas Fair on Nov. 12 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Nov. 13 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Only new merchandise. For further information, please call 294-9837.

Antique and Collectibles Auction at First Presbyterian Church

The First Presbyterian Church, 16 South 9th Street, New Hyde Park (south of Jericho Turnpike) will hold an Antique and Collectibles Auction. Viewing will be at 5 p.m. and the auction at 6 p.m. Included will be multiple pieces of art, crystal, pressed and milk glass, jewelry, furniture, books, crocheted pieces, linens, dishes and much more. Temple Tikvah Annual Rummage Sale

Temple Tikvah of New Hyde Park will hold its annual rummage sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Monday, November 14 from 9:30 to noon. Highlights this year include costume jewelry, watches, pocketbooks, clothes, shoes, books and household items. Vintage fashion finds and great bargains. Temple Tikvah borders on the tip of Nassau and Queens. It is conveniently located at 3315 Hillside Avenue in New Hyde Park.

Candle Lighting Ceremony In Honor of Alzheimer/Dementia

The Town of North Hempstead, hosted by town clerk Leslie Gross and ACS Home Care, will hold a 4 p. m. Commemorative Candle Lighting ceremony to remember and honor those in the community whose lives have been touched by Alzheimer’s or Dementia. The event will be held in  Mary Jane Davis Park, on Plandome Road, opposite North Hempstead Town Hall. This is a way to shed light on this heartbreaking brain disorder.

Free Slide Show on Art at Shelter Rock Library

Art History Scholar Louise Cella Caruso will present a free slide/lecture: “Painting The American Aspect” at 7:30 p.m. at the Shelter Rock Public Library, 165 Searingtown Road, Albertson. No tickets are required. Seating is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis. For directions phone: 248-7363. This visual journey illustrates the monumental paintings of the Depression Era and the support given to thousands of artists by our country’s WPA. (The Works Progress Administration was a relief measure established in 1935.) Some of the best scenes of our nation were created in the heart of the Great Depression. Observe the works Of the Regionalists and the Social Realists: Thomas Hart Benton, BenShahn, John Steuart Curry, Reginald Marsh plus many more who left     us a treasure trove of history recorded. These artists painted dust bowl landscapes, simple barns, the New York Bowery, industrial complexes and crowded ghettoes as they crossed the country.

Doe Club of New Hyde Park to Hold Supermarket Bingo

The Doe Club of New Hyde Park will hold a Supermarket Bingo at 7 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, 901 Lakeville Road, New Hyde Park. $7 admission includes one special card and coffee and cake. A fun evening of bingo and raffles. For further information please call Christine Horvath at 248-4103.

The One and Only Santa Claus

The William Gill Theater atop the New Hyde Park Village Hall, corner of New Hyde Park Road and Jericho Turnpike, New Hyde Park will present The One and Only Santa Claus at 2 p.m. and again on Sunday, Dec. 11 at 2 p.m. Admission is $2. Tickets may be purchased at village hall from Monday to Friday from 8:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.
