Community Tennis Center Instructional Programs for Winter 2012
We are pleased to announce the start of registration for our Winter Indoor Tennis Program for Children at the Community Park Tennis Center. Registration for Session one lessons begins immediately for residents of the village.
A schedule of classes and a registration form is on the reverse side of this information sheet. Walk in residents and non-resident children attending Garden City Public Schools will be accepted beginning Dec. 19. Make checks payable to the “Inc. Village of Garden City.”
Winter Session — Classes begin Monday, January 23
Tots Ages 4-5
PeeWee – Ages 5 to 7: Introduction to Tennis, emphasizing basic movement and striking skills in a fun game-playing environment.
Novice – Ages 6 to 7: Continued development of basic movement and striking skills on a full size court. Serving and scorekeeping will be introduced. Past Tennis experience required.
Junior – Ages 8 to 11: Extension of Novice Level program. Continued emphasis on striking concepts, movement, and skills related to tennis.
Junior Advanced – Ages 8 to 11: For the more serious, more advanced students. These lessons are offered in 1 1/2 hr time slots. Experience required.
Senior – Ages 12 and older: Extension of Junior Program, continued emphasis on fundamentals and skills related to tennis play.
Senior Advanced – Ages 12 and older: For the more serious, more advanced student. These lessons are offered in 1 1/2 hour time slots. Experience required.
Ultimate Workout: For experienced Junior and Senior Level Tennis Players who want to “hone” their skills and get a good workout.

Swimming Lesson Registration Begins
The Garden City Recreation Department will be conducting children’s swimming lessons for Village residents at the Adelphi University Swimming Pool in Woodruff Hall on Saturday mornings. Your child must be six years of age by the start of the program to participate. This 11 week session will begin Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011. Classes are taught by Red Cross certified instructors. The cost is $75.

Level 2 – For children who have taken a lesson but need to learn fundamental skills
Level 3 – Will build on fundamental skills by providing guided practices
Level 4 – Develops confidence in the strokes learned and improve other aquatic skills
Level 5 – Provides further coordination and refinement of strokes
Level 6P – Personal Water Safety – stresses survival floating, treading water, swimming in clothes, etc.
Level 6F – Water Fitness – sessions will cover learning training techniques, how to use fins, kickboards, pace, clock, etc.

Winter Floor Hockey Program
The Garden City Recreation Department is proud to announce it will once again offer a Floor Hockey Program this winter at Field House @ St. Paul’s. The program will be open to village residents between the ages of 5-12 on select Friday’s according to the following schedule: Ages 5-7: 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. and Ages 8-12: 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.
The cost of this program will be $25. All participants are required to wear the following equipment at all times: Hockey helmet with cage, hockey gloves, shin pads, hockey stick and sneakers.

Preschool Arts and Crafts
The Recreation Department will be running its popular Preschool Arts and Crafts classes began the week of Nov. 14. These 45-minute classes will run for five weeks and are open to any Garden City resident ages 3-½ to 5 years. Your child must be the appropriate age by the start of the class in order to participate. Classes will be held according to the following schedule:
Mondays from 12:15 to 1 p.m.
Fridays from 12:15 to 1 p.m.

Adult Activities in St. Paul’s Field House
St. Paul’s Field House has begun holding nighttime activities for adults who are Garden City residents who have graduated from high school. The nighttime activity schedule began in St. Paul’s Field House on Tuesday, Oct. 11 according to the schedule below:
Mondays and Wednesdays, 7:30 to 10 p.m. Open basketball Men’s over 40 Basketball
Tuesdays 7:30–10 p.m. Men’s over 30 Basketball
Thursdays 7:30–10 p.m. Coed Volleyball
