4 Escape Uniondale Home Engulfed in Flames

Flames engulfed a Uniondale house but luckily the 4 people inside were able to escape.

According to Nassau County Police, Sunday at around 8:30 a.m., officers responded to 331 Chester Street in Uniondale after a report of a house fire came in. Both a man and woman, 23 and 19 years old, woke up to the sound of a smoke detector ringing. The victims moved to the living room where they found heavy smoke condition. The two were able to get out of the home. Another man and woman, 42 and 54 years old, were also inside the house at the time. The two were in the bedroom but were also able to exit the house safely, this time through a window.

As Uniondale Fire Department extinguished the fire, all four people and a police officer were rushed to a local hospital where they were treated for smoke inhalation. The 19-year-old also sustained second degree burns to her hands. All injuries are considered non-life threatening.

The cause of the fire is undetermined but considered non-suspicious. The investigation is ongoing.
