Cops: Suspect Assaulted Officer in Roslyn Heights

Late Saturday, a Queens man was arrested after allegedly ignoring police and resisting arrest.

According to police, at around 9:15 p.m., 29-year-old Nabhan Khondker, of Queens, was driving a Jeep Wrangler eastbound on Hillside Avenue in East Williston when he attempted to enter oncoming traffic to pass the car in front of it. Two police officers in a marked police car spotted Khondker doing this and attempted to pull him over. Cops say Khondker ignored the officers and instead, made a left onto Roslyn Road and drove about 1 mile before finally pulling over near Club Drive in Roslyn Heights. But the problems continued as cops attempted to get him out of his car.

Officers reportedly asked Khondker to exit his car several times but he refused. Then, when police tried to conduct an investigation, Khondker reportedly became extremely violent and began to fight with them. One officer was even taken to a hospital to be treated for her injuries after she suffered a contusion to the right side of her face, injuries to her knees and an injury to her right hand during the course of this struggle.

Khondker is charged with Assault, Unlawful Fleeing of a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest and Driving While Intoxicated and will be arraigned Sunday, February 5, 2012 at First District Court in Hempstead.
