Bourne is back…kind of.
The teaser trailer for The Bourne Legacy was released and it features Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker) starring in the action thriller, not Matt Damon, the man who helped drive the Bourne franchise to gross more than $500 million.
Renner plays, Aaron Cross, who appears to be another lethal government agent that was trained under a new spy program called “Outcome.”
“Jason Bourne was the tip of the iceberg,” says Edward Norton, another newcomer to the popular espionage franchise. Rachel Weisz (The Mummy) also joins the cast. Reprising their roles from the previous Bourne films are Albert Finney, Joan Allen, David Strathairn and Scott Glenn.
The intense trailer gives fans the first look of Renner in his new action-packed role.
Tony Gilroy wrote the film and also handles the directing duties for the film that is scheduled to be released in August.
The description of the new film reads: “The writer/director expands the Bourne universe created by Robert Ludlum with an original story that introduces us to a new hero (Jeremy Renner) whose life-or-death stakes have been triggered by the events of the first three films.”
The prior three films were huge hits at the box office. The Bourne Identity started it off by grossing more than $121 million, and the numbers continued to grow with each film that was released (The Bourne Supremacy: $176,241,941 and The Bourne Ultimatum $227,471,070).
