A man was shot dead while driving on Sunrise Highway in Bohemia early Sunday morning.
Bennie Rouse, 22, of Central Islip was driving westbound on Sunrise Highway at around 4 a.m. when a vehicle pulled up next to his car and took aim at him. Rouse was shot by an unidentified person in the neighboring vehicle and subsequently pulled his vehicle onto the shoulder of the road. Rouse’s acquaintance, who was following him in a separate car at the time, took charge and transported the injured man to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore.
Unfortunately, it was too late for Rouse, who was pronounced dead at the Bay Shore hospital.
At the time of the shooting, a female passenger was accompanying Rouse in his vehicle. She was not injured during the incident.
